The wave of citizen insecurity that keeps Peru in suspense
The Government of Peru declared this week a state of emergency in three locations due to the increase in citizen insecurity. San Juan de Lurigancho and San Martín de Porras, in Lima and Talara, in the north of the country are the areas included in this measure.
As part of the decree, the armed forces will travel to the towns to participate in security operations. Additionally, several citizen rights are suspended, such as the inviolability of the home.
One of the sectors most affected by the growing wave of violence has been San Juan de Lurigancho, where on September 16, individuals threw a grenade into a nightclub, injuring 15 people.
The number of crimes reported in Lima rose to 160,200 last year, compared to the figure registered in 2021, of 120,350 reports.
