The Peruvian government declared a state of emergency on Wednesday around the Ubinas volcano, the most active in Peru, in the face of "imminent danger" due to the new eruptive process that began on June 24. The measure has been approved in a preventive manner after the increase in explosions and the expulsion of ash in the Moquegua region, some 1,100 km south of Lima.
The Ubinas erupted again after four years "asleep", and recently the columns of smoke and ash reached a maximum height of 5,500 meters above the top of the crater. The emergency decree will be in force for 60 days and covers the affected districts, although the actual measures that will be applied in the towns are unknown.
