The rescue of a man trapped in a well in Cuba for 24 hours | International
Cuban rescuers managed to rescue a man who had fallen into a twelve-meter well in HolguĆn, located in the east of the island, alive on Monday. Fernando Herrera RamĆrez, 63, had fallen on the spot after heavy rains in the area, which softened the ground. The farmer was doing cleanup work in the nearby area when he suffered the accident.
The victim was trapped inside, partially buried by rocks and mud. For more than 24 hours, the rescuers extracted material to free his body, until they managed to get it out and take it to a hospital for medical attention.
In recent days, intense storms in Cuba have caused at least one death and left hundreds of houses flooded. HolguĆn is one of the most affected provinces, after the overflow of a canal in the municipality of Cacoum.
