On November 20, Joe Biden will turn 81, extending his record as the oldest sitting president in United States history.

In recent years, the president has been criticized for episodes of confusion and stumbles. In June of this year, he mistakenly identified the Ukraine war as the Iraq war. In 2022, he sought out a Republican congresswoman who had already died at a public event.

If the projections of a new electoral contest between Joe Biden and Donald Trump come true, the 2024 election would be the first in history in which the winner would be over 80 years old when his term in office ends, assuming he completes it.

The United States Constitution does not establish a maximum age to occupy the presidency, only a minimum of 35 years. Some critics have pointed out the need for a change in legislation.

A 2022 poll found that more than half of Americans, 58%, support setting a maximum age for the presidency. Of those in favor of the limitation, 24% believe that it should be 60 years and 39% set it at 70 years.
