The Mexicans Brandon Moreno and "Pantera" Rodríguez lose UFC titles in a historic function with Donald Trump as a witness

The UFC 290 show held on Saturday in Las Vegas was historic because two Mexican fighters disputed their respective championships. Unfortunately, Both Brandon Moreno and Yair “Pantera” Rodríguez lost their bouts in one of the biggest soirees in mixed martial arts in recent years.even with Donald Trump as a witness in the arena.

Shortly after Brandon Moreno was dethroned at flyweight by Brazilian Alexandre Pantoja in a fast-paced co-main event, “Pantera” Rodríguez was defeated by third-round TKO against now undisputed featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski of Australia.

Australian Volkanovski, 34, held the UFC featherweight title in 2019 and made four successful defenses before jumping to lightweight in February to an adverse outcome. He then returned to featherweight to face the 30-year-old Mexican, who in turn won the interim featherweight title at the same event in Australia.

Volkanovski improved to a 26-2 record, confirming that he is one of the strongest champions in recent years in the UFC. Rodríguez is 16-4 after being extensively dominated before the referee stopped the actions.

Brandon Moreno relinquishes flyweight title in bloody battle

The battle between Brandon Moreno (21-7-2) and Alexandre Pantoja (26-5) was tremendous, bloody and difficult for the judges to score, who saw the challenger win by split decision (46-49, 48-47, 48-47). The Tijuana native had won the regular flyweight crown for the second time last January in Brazil by defeating Deiveson Figueiredo in their fourth meeting.

Pantoja had already beaten Moreno twice -one of them unofficial because it was on the reality show "The Ultimate Fighter"-, for which he confirmed that he was the poison of the brave fighter from Tijuana. "Moreno has evolved a lot," Pantoja admitted when interviewed in the Octagon. "I didn't expect a tough guy like that, but I worked really hard for this."

The performance was held at the T-Mobile Arena before a constellation of mixed martial arts stars and other sports celebrities, but highlighted the presence of Donald Trump, who entered the venue along with Dana White, president of the UFC and unconditional ally of the former president from United States.
