The Kremlin lashes out at the IOC's decision not to invite Russians to Paris 2024
He kremlin crossed out this friday unfair the decision of International Olympic Committee of do not invite Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Paris 2024 Olympic Gameswho will send their invitations on July 26, one year after the start of the fair.
The spokesman of the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskovin his daily press conference, lashed out:
We do not consider it fair. Our position is well known. We are categorically against the politicization of sport.
According to the Kremlin representative, “Russian athletes must have the right to participate in international competitions“.
“We will continue to work with everyone, including the IOC, to defend the rights of our athletes“he added.
The IOC announced Thursday that will not include Russia and Belarus in the invitation list that he will send on July 26 to all the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the world so that they can participate in the quadrennial summer joust.
Although athletes from both countries were sanctioned after the Russian military intervention in Ukraine in February 2022, already have returned to most competitions under a neutral flagthe IOC qualified that will make a decision "in due course" about their participation in the Games.
The Minister of Sports of Russia, Oleg Matitsindenounced this Thursday that the IOC decision is a act of discrimination that violates the principles of Olympism.
“This yet another discrimination, a violation of the principles of Olympism“, he said, adding that the decision was made without taking into account the “qualifying competitions”.
