The spokesman of the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskovin his daily press conference, lashed out:
We do not consider it fair. Our position is well known. We are categorically against the politicization of sport.
According to the Kremlin representative, “Russian athletes must have the right to participate in international competitions“.
“We will continue to work with everyone, including the IOC, to defend the rights of our athletes“he added.
The IOC announced Thursday that will not include Russia and Belarus in the invitation list that he will send on July 26 to all the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the world so that they can participate in the quadrennial summer joust.
Although athletes from both countries were sanctioned after the Russian military intervention in Ukraine in February 2022, already have returned to most competitions under a neutral flagthe IOC qualified that will make a decision "in due course" about their participation in the Games.
