The connectivity market is completely controlled by the state company Ectesa, the only telephony provider. According to, Cuba was placed in position 203 on the Internet speed chart, in a list that measured connectivity in 220 countries.

The Internet has also become a key detail during the mobilizations against the government, and protesters have denounced that the authorities block access to the network to limit the scope of the protests.
