The images of the wave of forest fires that devastates Chile
The deadliest wave of fires in the last decade in Chile continues adding victims and damages. So far there have been 26 deaths and more than a thousand injuries, with more than 200 active fires throughout the country.
Chile has been going through a period of extensive drought for more than a decade, the longest in at least a century, also marked by a crisis in water supply. The current heat wave and intense winds have contributed to the spread of the fire.
The Chilean authorities have requested international help, due to the difficulty in controlling the fires in certain areas, where temperatures reach 40 degrees. President Gabriel Boric has issued an emergency declaration for the most affected regions, mostly rural, such as Biobío, Nuble and Araucania.
