The governor of Puerto Rico announces his candidacy for re-election in 2024
San Juan, Oct 1 (EFE).- The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, announced this Sunday his candidacy as a pre-candidate for the New Progressive Party (PNP) to be re-elected as head of the Executive for the 2024 elections.
"Today I file my candidacy because I am part of a team of public servants, of progressive men and women who give everything for Puerto Rico. I thank all public servants for their militancy. Together we are: The best team!" expressed on the social network X.
Pierluisi made his announcement before thousands of PNP supporters at the Pedro RossellĂł Convention Center in San Juan.
There, PNP leaders, heads of government agencies and officials arrived to support Pierluisi.
In this way, Pierluisi and the resident commissioner in Washington, DC, and vice president of the PNP, Jenniffer GonzĂĄlez, are, so far, the two pre-candidates of the community interested in the position of governor in the next elections.
"When the PNP governs, Puerto Rico progresses," said Pierluisi, while stating that during his three years as head of the Executive he has improved the economic sector, with record figures in areas such as employment and tourism, "a product of hard work." hard of this PNP administration.
Pierluisi won the 2020 elections with 427,016 votes (33.2%), according to data from the Puerto Rico State Election Commission.
Carlos Delgado Altieri, of the Popular Democratic Party, finished in second place with 407,817 votes (31.8%), followed by Alexandra LĂșgaro, of the Citizen Victory Movement, with 174,402 (13.6%).
