Bogotá, Nov 9 (EFE).- The Council of State, the highest court for administrative litigation in Colombia, annulled this Thursday the election as senator of the leftist Alexander López Maya, former president of Congress, for having incurred double militancy.

The court had accepted a lawsuit against López, a member of the leftist Pacto Historico coalition for the Polo Democrático Alternativo party, because "he provided support to Mr. Jorge Edgar Flórez Herrera, candidate for the Green Alliance for the House of Representatives for Santander, a different political party where it belongs" during last year's parliamentary elections.

For this reason, today they decided to declare the election of López, president of the Polo Democrático Alternativo and senator since 2006, null and void.

"Come on people! Here no one gives up, no one gives up. This seat belongs to the people and their rights, we will defend it with the same dignity and the same courage as always. We continue fighting! Until dignity becomes customary!" , expressed López in his X account.

The congressman was president of the Senate between June 6 and July 20 when he took the place of his colleague Roy Barreras, who left office after the Council of State annulled his election on the grounds that he incurred double militancy by changing of the match without complying with the legal deadlines.
