El serbio Novak Djokovic, número uno del mundo, se impuso, 6-2 y 6-3, en una hora y diecisiete minutos al neerlandés Tallon Griekspoor para acceder a los Cuartos de Final del torneo ATP 500 de Dubai. Fue un trámite para el balcánico, que logró su decimonovena victoria seguida y prolongó su condición de invicto en este 2023.
El serbio, que ya había vencido a Griekspoor, trigésimo noveno del mundo, en el Abierto de Estados Unidos 2021 con la misma autoridad, aspira a su sexto trofeo en Dubai.
Con los éxitos de Adelaida y el Abierto de Australia ya en el bolsillo en este 2023 pretende alargar su racha en Emiratos Árabes.
Djokovic, que este lunes entró en la historia como el deportistas con más tiempo en el número uno del ranking mundial, con 378 semanas, jugará en Cuartos de Final con el ganador del duelo entre el ruso Pavel Kotov y el polaco Hubert Hurkacz, quinto favorito.
Previamente, el vigente campeón, el ruso Andrey Rublev, sobrevivió al español Alejandro Davidovich, que dispuso de cinco puntos de partido que no supo aprovechar.
Al final, Rublev venció por 1-6, 7-6 (6) y 7-6 (3) y se enfrentará en cuartos al neerlandés Botic Van de Zandschulp.
