"This attack is one chapter in a series of attacks that targeted the most important civilian and vital Syrian facilities, including the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, the commercial port of Latakia, and scientific and cultural centers," said a statement from the Chancellery.

An Israeli strike late on Monday killed one soldier, wounded 7 others, including two civilians, and put Aleppo International Airport out of service, local Syrian media reported on Tuesday.

The Foreign Ministry described the attack carried out today against the Aleppo International Airport as one chapter in a series of attacks that targeted vital Syrian civilian facilities, including airports, the commercial port of Latakia and scientific and cultural centers.

These hostile policies are nothing more than a miserable attempt to shuffle the cards in the region and hinder the ongoing diplomatic movement, which aims to restore the security and stability of Syria, the text said.

According to information from military sources, Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli missiles in the vicinity of Aleppo and shot down several of them.

Israel carried out the missile attack at 11:35 p.m. local time southeast of Aleppo, targeting the airport and some sites in the vicinity of the Syrian city and causing some material damage.

Israel has for years carried out attacks against what it has described as Iran-linked targets in Syria, where it credits Tehran with influence after it began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that began in 2011 with foreign intervention.

In March, Israel attacked the Aleppo airport on two separate occasions, putting it out of service for several days.

Citing a military official, the state news agency SANA said two civilians and five other Syrian soldiers were injured.

Israeli airstrikes on Homs injured three civilians and set a civilian fuel station on fire: missiles destroyed an ammunition depot belonging to the Lebanese group Hezbollah at a military airport in the Homs countryside.
