Super Mario RPG, a great turn-based adventure

The Super Mario Bros. saga is not only one of the most beloved around the world, it also has a wide variety of titles that allows Nintendo to remake some of the ones that most amazed video gamers in their time, as is the case of Super Mario RPG.

This video game will arrive on the Nintendo Switch console this Friday, November 17, but the original title called Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars was launched for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1996, with the support of Squaresoft and surprising gamers because, as its name indicates, it belongs to the RPG genre that has turn-based combat.

At Excelsior we had the opportunity to try the new version, called Super Mario RPG, which is a remake because Nintendo and ArtePiazza not only improved the graphics or added new languages ​​as happens in a remaster, they also added new content and game mechanics.

The graphic section is where the difference with the original is immediately noticeable because 3D elements and very bright colors were used in the scenarios that, although they are not an open world, make gamers want to turn around. To which is added the inclusion of some video scenes to give more information about the story that the original did not have.

What is it about?

The first thing to take into account is that it starts like other titles in the saga, Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and Mario goes to save her.

After a short fight he manages to save her and defeat the evil man in his own castle, but at that moment the Fraguo Gang appears and a giant sword called Exor stabs itself in the middle of the castle, causing everyone to fly into the air.

Mario tries to return to find the princess, but Exor knocks down the bridge that connects to the castle and now the hero must find a way to get in and find out who the real villain of this story is, don't worry, there will be no spoilers.

Being an RPG, gamers should know that these are turn-based fights and that Mario is not alone in the adventure, as he will find traveling companions like Mallow and Geno who will help him fight.

These fights imply that the player must choose what action each character he controls will perform, from simple attacks, special attacks, defense or choosing artifacts to recover vitality. Unlike other similar titles, Super Mario RPG allows you to press the action button (A) again to increase damage or dodge an attack, although it has to be at the right time.

Regarding what is new, it stands out that the possibility of choosing a target enemy was added and when choosing certain attacks, having the possibility of also damaging your companions, to which is added the appearance of strong enemies at random to obtain more experience.

Super Mario RPG is a video game that gives freshness to the saga and has elements to attract even those who are not familiar with RPGs.
