Sum of wills will help to face inflation: AMLO in Veracruz

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led in Veracruz the second day of the production campaign for self-consumption, which aims to boost the cultivation and harvest of basic grains in order to stop the increase in prices of corn, beans, tortilla , oil, among other products of the basic basket.

“The purpose of this meeting is for us to join efforts, wills, to face a challenge that is presented to us: that of inflation,” he remarked.

In the municipality of Boca del Río, he explained that the greatest impact of inflation in Mexico is registered in food, for which the federation is taking measures aimed at reducing the effects of the global phenomenon on the economy of Mexican families, mainly those with less means.

“Fighting against inflation is facing poverty, guaranteeing that income yields more, strengthening the purchasing power of our people,” he asserted.

For example, said the president, an agreement was reached with the large food companies so that the prices of 24 products of the basic basket do not increase and people pay what is fair for them.

Another measure is the elimination of tariffs, which will allow countries like Belize to sell food in Mexico.

“This is going to help us to have more supply, not to close our economy but to open it so that we have what is required and the most important thing in the strategy is to produce what we consume. If we don’t produce, we will always be depending on foreigners”, she emphasized.

The president highlighted the importance of rural producers and indicated that the Government will support them more than ever.

He highlighted the results of the free fertilizer delivery program, such as the double production in Guerrero thanks to these inputs and the expansion to Puebla, Tlaxcala, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Zacatecas and Nayarit. He announced that it will also be applied in Veracruz.

The undersecretary of Productive Inclusion and Rural Development of the Ministry of Welfare, Hugo Raúl Paulín Hernández, explained that the objective of the production day in Veracruz endorses the commitment of the federal government with the Mexican countryside and is part of the actions of the Plan against Inflation and the Famine that occurred in days past.

He reported that the Sowing Life and Production for Well-being programs are tasked with increasing up to 2.5 million tons of corn and an additional 50,000 tons of beans.

Both initiatives of the federal government will have technical assistance and direct support to increase the productive activity of the field.

In addition, the commitment to produce organic fertilizers is maintained; one and a half million tons of solid fertilizers and 36 million of liquid fertilizers.

This meeting was attended by 3,200 technicians, agronomists and extensionists from the Secretariats of Welfare, Agriculture and Rural Development and the Environment, as well as state and national institutions.

“Today we are rescuing the countryside so that it becomes productive again and provides food security to our country. (…) Let us maintain the community organization in the peasant learning communities and in the peasant schools so that from below we build food sovereignty”, he expressed.
