The Police Department of Hollywood, Florida, reported this Monday that a shooting occurred in Hollywood Beach, in the city of Miami, which has left several injured, although it is not ruled out that the reports increase.

According to the police, cited by local media, so far some nine people have been injured and hospitalized.

Police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi said some victims were taken to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and others to Memorial Regional Hospital, though their ages or identities have not been released.



Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting began after an altercation between two groups, and at least one person was arrested, although another suspect is still being sought.

The police agency urged that it is essential that "the area of ​​Hollywood Beach, from Johnson to Garfield Street and Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, be avoided due to an ongoing police investigation."

Similarly, the agency announced to users that "if you are looking to reunite with a family member, we have established a reunification area at Johnson St. and North Ocean."



Shootings in other states continue, including Chicago where nine people were killed and 32 injured in that eastern US state from gunshot injuries over the weekend.

“There have been 70 mass shootings in the United States in the 29 days of May, bringing the total for 2023 to 259,” according to the Gun Violence Archive.

In the month of April, 56 shootings were reported. "GVA had never registered a month of more than 60 mass shootings before 2020. It happened five times in 2020, six times in 2021, six more times in 2022 and now for the first time in 2023," the platform confirmed.
