Shooting inside Walmart in Miami-Dade leaves one dead and one person arrested

After the shooting, footage showed more than a dozen Miami-Dade Police officers outside the store.

One person is dead and another is in custody after an exchange of gunfire inside a Southwest Miami-Dade Walmart. on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police said the shooting was due to a fight. A spokesman would not confirm in which section of the store the shooting occurred.

The victim, an adult, was taken to Jackson South Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

The Miami-Dade Fire Department initially reported that “several people were injured” after the shooting, but later it was confirmed that only one person had been shot and that there were no other injuries related to the incident.

Video from a nearby traffic camera shows Miami-Dade police officers and fire rescue teams at the scene.

According to local media, the supermarket is located near the town of Goulds, which has a population of over 10,000 and runs near the US1 national highway, south of Miami.

At least 122 Americans are killed by guns and more than 110 are injured every day from gun violenceaccording to the latest report from the organization Gun Violence Archive (GVA).

According to the count in 2022, there are more than 500 mass shootings in the United States, with an average of almost 2 such events per day.

According to GVA, the number of mass shootings is constantly increasing. The United States recorded 610 mass shootings in 2020 and 692 mass shootings in 2021, so the trend this year is that it could match, even surpass, that mark.
