One man was killed, four people shot and another man was wounded during a shooting Tuesday in the Southwest, according to D.C. police.
Deputy Chief Carlos Heraud he told reporters during a press conference that police believe all the victims knew each other.
The deputy chief said police responded to the shooting around 4:15 p.m. at a residence in the 200 block of M Street SW, a few blocks west of Nationals Park. Officers found two men at the scene with gunshot wounds.
"Again, this research is very early," Heraud said. "What we do know is that it appears that all the parties involved, or all the parties I have mentioned so far, know each other in some way."
One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other male victim with gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Heraud.
Another man was injured when he fell at the residence during the shooting, but did not suffer gunshot wounds.
According to authorities, three other men who were injured in the shooting were admitted to a nearby hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
Police have not identified any suspects at this time.
"When we get information to monitor the suspects... we will make sure to go to the media as soon as possible," Heraud said.
