Iowa authorities search for possible survivors of the partial collapse of a six-story apartment building in the city of Davenport.
It was yesterday afternoon, Sunday, May 28, that residents of the place reported the collapse of the building where it is estimated that several people are still trapped.
According to testimonies from people who were at the scene, the collapse occurred while a beam was being installed support in the building.
At ground zero of the collapse, which occurred around 5pm local time on Sunday, firefighters detected water and gas leaks among the rubble while searching for survivors.
According to the fire chief, Mike Carlsten, the building is "structurally defective" and "represents a risk to rescuers" so the work is delaying.
“This is an active scene, we will continue to work, we will continue to evaluate for the purpose of trying to find people and trying to get them outDavenport Mayor Mike Matson said during a press conference.
During Sunday evening six injured people were rescued while in the early hours of this Monday one more was found alive inside the rubble.
This Monday the authorities continue the search and rescue tasks of more survivors with the help of canine pairs.
