Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell was hospitalized after suffering a fall

The leader of the Republican minority of the Senate, mitch mcconnellwas hospitalized after a fall at a Washington DC hotel, his spokesman said Wednesday night.
The 81-year-old senator was attending a private dinner at a hotel in the capital when he tripped, spokesman David Popp said in the statement quoted by various media. "He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment," he added, without offering further details on his condition.
McConnell was first elected to the Senate in 1984 and was reelected in 2020 to serve a seventh term.
He was Senate Majority Leader from 2015 until early 2021, when Democrats assumed a majority after the 2020 election.
The Senate, where the median age is 65, has been without several members recently due to illness.
The office of 90-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she was hospitalized last week for treatment for shingles. Feinstein had previously announced her decision to withdraw from her tenure.
The senator john fettermanThe 53-year-old Pennsylvania Democrat, who suffered a stroke during his campaign last year, will also be out for a few weeks while receiving care for clinical depression.
