Santiago 2023: William de Jesús achieved the first gold for Mexico

Taekwondo in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games began to distribute medals this Saturday with the golds obtained by the Mexican William de Jesus Arroyo and the American Kaitlyn Reclusado in individual poomsae.

Arroyo won the gold medal after beating the Nicaraguan Elian Ortega, who obtained the silver medal, and the Puerto Rican Luis Gabriel Colón and the Peruvian Hugo del Castillo completed the podium, with a bronze each.

In the final of the women's competition, Reclusado beat María Alejandra Higueros, from the Independent Athletes Team (EAI), who received the silver medal.

In third place were the Mexican Cecilia Lee and the Puerto Rican Arelis Medina.
