The opening ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games took place this Friday at the National Stadium in the Chilean capital.

The opening ceremony was headed by the president of the southern country, Gabriel Boric, the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro as well as other local government officials.
"Chile offers its home as a meeting point for the Americas, as a place to look at each other again," Pizarro expressed in his speech, paraphrasing the Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra.
The delegations of the 41 countries with the 4,141 athletes that will participate in the games paraded with their flag bearers in front.
