Sacmex addressed challenges of equitable water distribution in CDMX

The Water System of Mexico City (Sacmex) is implementing measures to address the challenges in the equitable distribution of water in the capital, according to Dr. Rafael Carmona Paredes, General Coordinator of the institution, during his participation in the “Water Infrastructure” dialogue table of the Congress AquaTech Mexico 2023held at the CitiBanamex Convention Center.

One of the examples mentioned by Dr. Carmona is the water supply for approximately 362 thousand inhabitants in the neighborhoods near the Sierra Santa Catarina, located in the mayor's office. Iztapalapa. This progress is attributed to efficient management that has incorporated information technology and data processing to ensure a fairer distribution of water.

Carmona Paredes highlighted that, although they have advanced technology, it is essential to continue working on its implementation in the city. In addition, he stressed the importance of developing policies that promote progress in matters of distribution equitable and other aspects related to water.

This focus on equity is especially evident in places that have historically experienced supply problems, such as the Sierra de Santa Catarina in Iztapalapa. Recent changes in management and the incorporation of technology have made it possible to solve problems that have persisted for decades.

To address these challenges, the agency has deployed a strategic plan that involves 150 people for monitoring and operation in Iztapalapa. The adjustment of the emptying speed of the storage tank has guaranteed an adequate supply of water to each of the pumps in the network, benefiting more than 362 thousand inhabitants in at least 25 neighborhoods.

Dr. Carmona emphasized the importance of adopting cutting-edge technology in monitoring pressures in the primary distribution network and its areas of influence. This includes block water systems in the West, North, East and South areas, as well as in the different subsystems and branches that make up the primary network.
