Russia's Kherson region in emergency after dam destruction | News
Russian local authorities on Wednesday decreed a state of emergency in the Kherson province after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam, according to Moscow as a result of a Ukrainian attack, which caused severe flooding in the region.

The Russian emergency services confirmed to the national press the extension of the state of emergency when 2,700 houses have been flooded and 1,300 people have had to be evacuated.
"According to preliminary estimates, those affected would be between 22,000 and 40,000 people," said the Russian interim governor of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo.

In turn, the mayor of Nóvaya Kajovka, Vladimir Leóntiev, pointed out that currently "more than 30,000 cubic meters of water are discharged every second from the Kajovka reservoir downstream."
The territorial authority reported that around 100 people are stranded on the outskirts of Nóvaya Kajovka due to flooding while rescue operations continue.

Similarly, Leóntiev pointed out that thousands of animals have died as a result of the flood in the Nizhnedneprovsk National Park, meanwhile, experts indicated that the water will recede in at least seven days.
According to official Russian sources, Ukrainian forces launched a multi-rocket attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on Tuesday, destroying the dam's valves and causing flooding on both sides of the Dnieper River.
