The russian athletes were authorized to participate under a neutral flag in the Paris Paralympic Games-2024 (August 28-September 8), after two votes at the general assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), in Manama (Bahrain).

After having rejected the complete suspension of the Russian Paralympic committee (74 votes in favor, 65 against and 13 abstentions), the IPC voted in favor of a partial suspension (90 in favor, 56 against and 6 abstentions).

In this way, Russian athletes will be able to participate "individually" and "neutral way" at the Paris Paralympic Games, which begin in 11 months.

The IPC must also rule this Friday on the status of member of the Belarusian Paralympic committee.

The position adopted by the IPC is close to the recommendation made on March 28, 2023 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to international federations to authorize the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutral individual athletes in international competitions.

The IOC did not then take a position regarding the 2024 Games, deferring this decision "to the appropriate time."

Following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, as of February 24, 2022, the IPC decided not to authorize the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

On November 16 of that year, the IPC general assembly meeting in Berlin had suspended the Russian and Belarusian national Paralympic committees for one year.
