The Ukrainian delegation in negotiations with Russia reported that talks about the war and a possible armistice have been suspended with the commitment to resume them tomorrow, Tuesday, March 15.

“In the negotiations we have taken a technical break until tomorrow for some additional work in subgroups and to specify certain definitions. Negotiations continue,” said Mikhail Podoliak, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his Telegram account, according to local Russian agencies.

Unlike the previous three, this fourth round of negotiations has been held by videoconference.

Podoliak said today, as soon as the talks began, that both sides have “actively” expressed their positions and that “communication is difficult, but it continues.”

In his opinion, the reason for the “mismatches” is that Ukraine and Russia have “very different” political systems.

“Ukraine is a country that maintains free dialogue in society and binding consensus. Russia practices, in short, the suppression of its own society,” she noted.

Russia and Ukraine have already held three rounds of negotiations to try to stop the war, started by the Russian invasion on February 24 under the pretext of protecting the pro-Russian regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.

After the previous meeting, the Ukrainian side explained that there are “determining advances” in relation to the “humanitarian corridors” to evacuate the civilian population, but not in terms of “improving the general situation in Ukraine”.

For its part, Russia declared that its hopes in the negotiations “were not justified”, alluding to the lack of concrete results beyond the humanitarian corridors.
