Russian Foreign Minister Says Guterres Delays Solution to World Food Crisis
The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, assured this Thursday that he considers that the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, is delaying a solution to the global food crisis.
“The Secretary General of the UN is delaying a solution to the food crisis through his actions, he does not allow the shipment of grain as soon as possible. This is unfortunate,” Lavrov stressed in an interview with the Belarusian national broadcaster, as reported by the Russian news agency. TASS.
Thus, he stressed that Russia is alarmed by the slow response of the United Nations to the proposals on the transport of grain.
“We are alarmed by the slow reaction on a matter that seems urgent. I do not rule out that the UN Secretariat is also suffering intense pressure from those who want to subject this international organization to external control,” added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Russian diplomat added that Russia came up with its own solutions to the crisis.
“All the proposals, voiced by President Vladimir Putin, have been put in writing and sent to New York. We have done what we could,” Lavrov said.
Likewise, Lavrov stated that Guterres is trying to resolve the issue grain transportation from Ukrainian ports without taking into account Russia’s daily announcements about humanitarian corridors for this purpose. (Europe Press)
