Russia declared on Tuesday that it will be forced to take response measures, both “military-technical and otherwise”, to stop threats to national security arising in connection with Finland's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. (NATO).

Finland will become a full member of NATO on Tuesday

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry explained that the concrete steps for defense construction on Russia's northwestern borders will depend on the specific conditions for the Nordic nation's integration into (NATO), "including the deployment of military infrastructure and security systems." attack weapons on their territory".

As a result of this union, “rather than doubling the line of direct contact between NATO and the borders of the Russian Federation, the situation in the northern European region, previously one of the most stable in the world, has radically changed. The North Atlantic Alliance has taken one more step towards the territory of Russia," the document denounced.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov, added that Moscow considers the expansion of NATO as "an attack against the national interests and security of Russia."

On the other hand, according to the organization, Finland "has definitively abandoned its own identity and any autonomy, something that has distinguished it in international affairs for decades" and has become "one of the small member countries of the Alliance, without a decisive role and having lost its special voice in international affairs".

Finland and Sweden submitted their applications to join NATO on May 18 last year and signed the protocols for joining the war bloc on July 5, 2022, which had to be ratified by the 30 member countries.

The Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, announced on March 31 that Finland had completed the "ratification process by the bloc's countries", after the Türkiye Parliament approved the accession protocol.

Finally, on Monday, the Finnish Presidency reported that this territory would become part of NATO on April 4. Finnish President Sauli Niinisto traveled to Brussels to attend an accession ceremony at the organization's headquarters.
