Ricardo Bofill, former father-in-law of Paulina Rubio, dies

After a long battle with cancer and two accidents, one skiing and one car, the 82-year-old Ricardo Bofill, former father-in-law of Paulina Rubio and Chabeli Iglesias, dies.

The renowned Catalan architect, who changed the façade of Barcelona with his art and talent, died this Friday in Paris, France, where he had been living for some years.

His son, Ricardo Bofill, who only inherited his name, but also his profession and his talent with architecture, was married for 3 years to Chabeli, daughter of Julio Iglesias, and had a 10-year relationship with Paulina Rubio.

In fact, he married the ‘Golden Girl’, in a ceremony that was sentimental, rather than legal, valid. Ricardo Bofill junior who built the mansion where Pau currently lives with his two children, and for this he had the advice of his father.

Although the two relations, with Chabeli and Paulina ended very badly, both always expressed their admiration for their former father-in-law, who is a celebrity in Spain, for his great contribution to culture and architecture.

Radio Televisión Española, one of the first media to give the information, reports that among the works of Bofill Sr. is urban design, they include the Place de l’Europe in Luxembourg, the Nueva Castellana in Madrid, the Antigone neighborhood in Motpellier (France), the Nueva Bocana in the port of Barcelona or the remodeling and expansion of the airport in the Catalan capital, where the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and the Hotel Vel.

Ricardo Bofill founded the Taller de Arquitectura in 1963 with a multidisciplinary team formed not only by architects, but also by other professionals and artists, like the literary critic Salvador Clotas, the poet José Agustín Goytisolo or the economist Julia Romea. Rest in peace.
