Rayados beats Pumas with a goal in added time
Monterrey won an agonizing 1-0 victory on Sunday from its visit to Pumas UNAM on the thirteenth day of the Mexican soccer Apertura tournament.
The “Rayados” of Monterrey, who have two games pending, reached 20 points to rise from eighth to fifth place overall.
The match played at the Olympic University Stadium in Mexico City had few scoring opportunities, and it was not until the 93rd minute when Alfonso González scored the winning goal for Monterrey with a shot inside the area, hitting the ball close to the left post after controlling a center sent by Luis Romo from the right sector.
Despite the defeat, Pumas remains in third place with 21 points.
The day will be completed later when Atlético de San Luis plays against Necaxa.
On Saturday, América recorded its fourth consecutive victory by beating Santos Laguna 4-3 and remained the leader of the tournament with 30 points, five points behind its runner-up Tigres UANL, which beat Cruz Azul 2-1.
In other games on Saturday, León beat Toluca 1-0, the same score with which Querétaro beat Tijuana.
At the start of the day, Guadalajara won 2-0 as a visitor to Puebla on Friday, Mazatlán won 3-1 from its visit to Atlas, and Pachuca beat Bravos de Ciudad Juárez 1-0 as a visitor. (Reuters).
