Megan Rapinoe She retired this Saturday due to injury in the 6th minute of the NWSL final, the match in which the legendary American soccer player decided to hang up her boots.

Rapinoe slipped in the 3rd minute on a play without contact with rival players and fell to the ground when the final had barely started between his team, OL Reign, and NJ/NY Gotham.

Double world champion with the United States, Gold in London 2012 and Ballon d'Or in 2019, Rapinoe could not continue due to that injury and left the field shortly after in tears, limping, with the help of the OL Reign medical staff and with the applause of the fans at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego (USA).

Before leaving the green and ending his brilliant career in this unfortunate and sad way, Rapinoe received a hug from Ali Krieger, a very close friend -but a rival this Saturday since she plays for Gotham- and who was also a double world champion with the United States.

Rapinoe was replaced by Bethany Balcer. (EFE)
