Former Chinese minister Qu Dongyu was re-elected this Sunday as director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) during the current 43rd session of the entity's Conference, which is being held in Rome, Italy.

Qu was first elected in June 2019 to head the UN agency and is the first Chinese national to hold the post. The election took place during the FAO Conference, which takes place from 1 to 7 July in Rome.

Since taking up the post, Qu has actively led FAO in addressing challenges related to global food security and contributing to the food and agricultural development of all countries, especially developing countries.



His efforts have been widely recognized by FAO member countries. His new term will run from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2027.
