Czesław Michniewiczselector of the national group of Polandassured that Mexico is not the favorite to win in its debut Tuesday in the Group C of the World Cup, and affirmed that every team in the tournament deserves to be there.
Polandwho is playing his ninth World Cup, Haven’t made it past the group stage since Mexico 1986so you will now face Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Argentina in his attempt to reach the round of 16 in Qatar 2022.
At a press conference, Michniewicz stated the next:
If I say that there are no logical reasons for Poland to top the group, they will say that I am a man of little faith […]I think we can pass. We have experienced players who have played many tournaments, and there are many young players who are learning from the big tournaments here in Qatar. I think this mix is right for us.
At the same conference, the strategist was asked if Mexico he was a favorite in his debut in the 2022 World Cup, this given that the last time they did not reach the knockout stage was in 1978.
We do not look at Mexico this way. I don’t see that much of a disparity between us, nor between us and Saudi Arabia or Argentina. We are all in the World Cup, we feel as important as our competitors in the group. We don’t give them any special rank.
However the ‘Tricolor’ has a solid record in the first matches of the World Cup with a balance of five wins and one draw in their last six tournaments.
Meanwhile, the last time Poland won his opening match was almost 50 yearswhen beat Argentinaalso from Group C, by a score of 3-2 in 1974when it was done with the third place in the competition after beating Brazil 1-0.
Wojciech Szczesny, goalkeeper for the polcaos, reiterated the importance of opening the tournament with a victory, and joked about how they will arrive for Tuesday’s game at 10:00 a.m. Central Mexico time, at Doha’s 974 Stadium.
