PVEM urges to protect Mexico's natural heritage

According to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, more than half of the 186 Protected Natural Areas that exist in the country have been decreed as Biosphere Reserves.
These are important because they are home to representative species of the country, endemic, threatened or in danger of extinction. They are also key for scientific research and the application of sustainable development models based on the work of local communities.
Within the framework of the International Day of Biosphere Reserves, the Green Party highlighted that these reserves also have areas where only conservation activities can be carried out.

Given the importance of this type of areas, representatives of the Green Party in the Chamber of Deputies presented, this year, a proposal to establish the obligation of the State to
allocate the necessary and sufficient budget for the protection and management of Protected Natural Areas.
The objective of this initiative is for the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit to provide public resources for the operation, equipment, restoration, biological monitoring, surveillance,
supervision and administration of the 187 terrestrial and maritime protected natural areas, which exist at a federal level.
As well as preventing Protected Natural Areas from suffering further deterioration, since their contribution to the conservation of biodiversity is vital. The latter because they provide pure air, water
clean, regulate and mitigate climate change and in some cases generate food for human consumption.
