The Green Ecologist Party of Mexico highlighted the importance of purchasing responsibly, since each year, the general population produces 1.1 million tons of electrical and electronic waste and of this, 6 percent has highly polluting materials such as batteries, plastics and metals. heavy.
The Green parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies presented an initiative to establish repairability labeling.
The proposal seeks to reform article 33 bis of the Federal Consumer Protection Law so that manufacturers of electrical and technological items indicate the degree of repairability of the product.

Luis Carrillo Soberanis, promoter of the initiative, argued that the objective of the proposal is to let consumers know the repair capacity of the products.
He pointed out that the decrease in electronic waste such as smart cell phones, printers, pocket calculators, among others, represents a health risk to the population and the environment since they contain toxic substances.
Finally, the legislator stressed that the proposal contributes to the reduction of the ecological footprint, which facilitates the protection of the natural resources used in its manufacturing.
