Prosecutor of Tierra Caliente was murdered with more than 50 shots; case has to do with combating organized crime

The murder of Victor Manuel Salas Cuadras, regional prosecutor in Tierra Caliente, Guerrero, has to do with a reaction by organized crime to the operations and seizures that were carried out in previous days. This was announced by the Secretary of the Interior, María Alcalde, in the morning conference on September 11.

The prosecutor's body was found lifeless on the night of Saturday, September 9. His body was found near the bridge Jaripo Town, about 10 kilometers from the municipal seat, next to federal highway 134 in the direction of Zihuatanejo.

In this regard, Mayor Luján (who led the "morning" due to the absence of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador), indicated that a investigation about it to clarify what happened. However, at the moment there are no reports on the alleged perpetrators.

“The entire investigation has already been opened in this regard. This is the regional prosecutor of Tierra Caliente. They told us about this aggression, about 50 firearm impacts, which has to do with operations and seizures carried out in days past. When we have more information we will communicate it,” indicated the official from the National Palace.

Likewise, he ruled out that the attacks and attacks against prosecutors in Guerrero are a pattern that has been repeated in recent months. “It has to do with these reactions because progress is being made in matters of arrests and arrests,” said María Alcalde.

It is worth remembering that Salas Cuadras also had the rank of Lieutenant colonel of the Mexican Army and had recently assumed his position, just five days before his death.

The incident began around 11:00 pm on Saturday when the authorities were alerted by a shooting in the vicinity of the House of Culture in Coyuca from Catalan. When they arrived at the scene, they found an abandoned official van.

A few minutes later, the prosecutor's body was located. Local sources reported that Salas Cuadras was kidnaped shortly after leaving home. The perpetrators were armed and traveled in luxury vans. It is presumed that they could be members of the Michoacana Family, but the authorities have not confirmed it.

The prosecutor had been threatened by organized crime six months ago and, on that occasion, he had to withdraw from the region escorted by military personnel and the National Guard.

The State Attorney General, Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón, had transferred Salas Cuadras to Tierra Caliente as part of a rotation scheme that is carried out regularly in the unit. It is worth mentioning that Salas Cuadras had already served as a prosecutor in that same area of ​​Guerrero, but had previously been threatened. Insecurity in Guerrero.

This murder joins a series of incidents that call security in Guerrero into question.
