The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting on Tuesday with his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernández, in the framework of the meeting of South American leaders held in Brazil.

Delegations from both countries were also present at this meeting, including the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, and his counterpart Santiago Cafiero.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, the Venezuelan president described this meeting as "important" and asserted that both united nations "work for a better destiny, union, peace and respect for the self-determination of the peoples."



According to a Presidential Press release, both heads of state reviewed the progress of cooperation relations "to consolidate a favorable path in economic, political and social matters," and thus strengthen integration ties.

For his part, the Argentine president indicated that the meeting was propitious to "continue advancing in the construction of a united Latin America."

"In the framework of the bilateral meeting, both parties underlined the importance of normalizing the bilateral relationship (...) Alberto Fernández urged his Venezuelan counterpart so that his country is once again represented in international forums and mechanisms," said a note. Casa Rosada press release.

In addition, Argentina reiterated the need for the sanctions imposed by other countries to be removed, as it has done on several occasions.
