He pointed out that the intensity of the rains, as a result of climate change and associated with the La Niña meteorological phenomenon, “have increased by 300 percent with respect to the drizzles that are regularly expected during this stage.”

“The people of Venezuela (should know) that there is a government here that is going to protect them, and that they are not going to lack a roof over their heads. They will not lack anything, ”he assured.

In turn, the president pointed out that among the most affected states are Táchira, Mérida, Zulia and Trujillo. “We have the capacity to act on time and in real time and we are 24 hours a day protecting the people. (…) We did not abandon the people for a second, ”he added.

After the demonstration of the effects suffered by several homes located in areas near streams, the president stressed that, despite the phenomenon, “no injuries or human losses” are reported.

In order to diagnose the damage after the weather phenomenon and take concrete recovery actions, the Regional Risk Committee was installed and, soon, the Superior Body of Housing will be empowered to pay special attention to the victims; while stating “it is necessary to give an alternative home to those affected”, since “nobody can live in those ravines”.

During the appearance, Civil Defense authorities and state authorities, such as the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, the governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, and the governor of the State of Mérida, Jehyson Guzmán, gave accounts.

The latter declared that he has received the support of the ministries of public works, the transit team and other government entities involved.

Nicolás Maduro expressed that the Government must remain on permanent alert during the rainy season to monitor weather effects to protect the Venezuelan people.

The Bolivarian president declared that, from this moment, the Special Fund for the Attention of the Rains is activated, which has “10 million renewable bolivars” dedicated to supplying the ravages of the rains.

With this subsidy, the affected homes must be restored, which will also receive the support of the Barrio Tricolor project.

So far, more than 2,000 risk points have been detected as a result of the intense rains and attention is drawn to the growth of the causes of the streams and rivers in the localities in question.

Although ten municipalities are reported in a state of alert, government authorities are active in the 29 states in order to prevent material and human damage.
