In a message published on his official Twitter social network account, the Mexican president described as “cordial” the conversation held with Granholm, which took place in the National Palace, seat of the Executive power.
“We deal with matters of interest to our peoples and nations; Respect, understanding and the will to cooperate for development prevailed,” said López Obrador.
Hours before her meeting with the Mexican head of state, the US Secretary of Energy announced that the government of President Joe Biden will be a great ally of Mexico in clean energy.
“There are issues that we have to work on, such as the electrical reform, but we know that in the end we are going to be strong allies that firmly support a strong US economy,” Granholm said in a meeting with Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
The US official stressed that this visit to Mexico is an “opportunity to have a very good conversation with a great ally.”
López Obrador had highlighted in his morning conference, known as “the morning”, that in his meeting with Granholm he was going to recognize that the United States has been respectful “of the independent energy policy”.
