Through his X account, formerly known as Twitter, Giammattei extended his invitation to Bernardo Arevalo to "start the orderly transition, the day after the results are made official."

The president also extended a message of congratulations to all Guatemalans for holding the elections in peace and tranquility.

The social democrat was elected as the new president of Guatemala after beating former first lady Sandra Torres in the electoral ballot.

According to the page of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) with 100 percent of the records processed, Bernardo Arévalo added 2.4 million ballots in his favor, which represents 58.01 percent of the total, while Sandra Torres Casanova counted 1.5. million votes received (37.24 percent).

The electoral authorities of the Central American country indicated that isolated incidents were recorded during election day, such as the explosion of two homemade devices in two voting centers on the outskirts of Guatemala City.

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, sent a message to the people of Guatemala and congratulated Bernardo Arévalo for having been declared by the TSE as the virtual winner of the second round of elections.

In his message via X, López Obrador assured that with the victory of the Seed Movement candidate "new times of humanism and justice will arrive for all and, in particular, for the heirs of the great Mesoamerican civilization."

The current electoral process has been characterized by the prominence of the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) which, since July 12, has tried to cancel the Seed Movement and prevent the participation of Arévalo de León in the second electoral round.
