The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, arrived in Venezuela this Saturday to participate in the 19th International Book Fair of Venezuela (Filven), which is taking place in El Laguito, Caracas, among other planned activities such as meeting with his colleague Nicolás Ripe.

The president was received at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in La Guaira by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, together with the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Milton Rengifo.

The Colombian head of state was also received with the first lady, Verónica Alcocer by the Honor Guard.

Petro is accompanied by his chancellor, Álvaro Leyva; the president of the state hydrocarbons company Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa; the Minister of Mines, Andrés Camacho, and the Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, among other authorities of his Executive.

The leftist president will participate in Filven, which has Colombia as a guest country, and will hold a meeting with diplomatic personnel from his country accredited in Caracas.

On November 9, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Minister of Culture of Venezuela, Ernesto Villegas, and his counterpart of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge of the Republic of Colombia, Juan David Correa. as part of the inauguration of the 19th edition of the International Book Fair (Filven).

After his election on August 7 as president, Petro set out to resume relations with Venezuela, broken since 2019 during the Government of Iván Duque.
