The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced on Tuesday the largest financing program for sustainable agricultural development projects in the country's history, valued at 364,000 million reais (77,446 million dollars).

“It is the first Harvest Plan of our government. I am not afraid to say that each year we will make better plans than the year before. I am convinced of that," said the president at the presentation ceremony of the 2023-2024 Harvest Plan, whose funds are 27 percent higher than those allocated last year.

The head of state pointed out that the plan will not be based on deforestation, but rather on recovering the 30 million hectares of degraded land in order to help combat climate change.

In this sense, Lula called on agricultural businessmen to respect nature to a greater extent and abandon ideologies to advocate sustainable economic development.

The main objective of this agricultural plan is to promote projects in pursuit of the care of nature, which, according to the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, constitutes a route towards "low-carbon agriculture."

“Those who think that the government thinks ideologically when it comes to a Zafra Plan are wrong. Those who think that the government will do more or less because it has problems with Brazilian agribusiness are mistaken,” he said.

In turn, the head of the Executive assured that the Government puts collective interests before personal ones while stressing that Brazil “has no aptitude for authoritarianism. This country does not have the capacity to have a dictatorship again.”

"We are a government with people from a different party, a different ideology, a different history, which has one thing that unites us all, showing ourselves and the Brazilian people that this country can be as great as we want," he stressed.
