The Portuguese Ministry of Health reported this Thursday that there were more than 56,000 new daily infections by Covid-19, which represents another record this week.

According to the Portuguese General Directorate of Health, 56,426 new positive cases were reported, leaving a total of 2,059,595 infections since the start of the pandemic.
On the other hand, the death toll rose to 19,447 cases; and another 2,000 people are admitted to hospitals.
In the framework of the preparations for the upcoming legislative elections on January 30, the Council of Ministers approved the temporary lifting of the isolation of infected people so that they can vote, preferably between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time).
For her part, the Minister of Internal Administration, Francisca Van Dunem, remarked that “the security of exercising the right to vote on the 30th depends on the individual attitude of each one of us.”
On January 17, Portugal resumed face-to-face work after teleworking was mandatory for three weeks. In addition, other restrictions were lifted in recreational places, with the requirement of a negative Covid-19 test to enter.
