The General Directorate of Health (DGS) of Portugal reported this Wednesday 40,945 new infections by Covid-19, a figure that constitutes a record of confirmed daily from the start of the pandemic to date.

According to the health entity, the death toll was 20 deaths, lower than the previous date; while the number of hospital admissions was 1,635, which exceeded the hospitalizations registered in the previous day by 71; of which 167 patients are kept in intensive care units.
On the other hand, the incidence rate rises to 3,615.9 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, however the transmission rate decreased to 1.23.
Regarding the vaccination process in the country, the agency reported that at least 8,744,188 people have completed the cycle, and in the case of the booster dose, around 3,497,563 Portuguese were administered the vaccine.
To date, the European country has accumulated 1,734,343 since the onset of the disease, of which at least 276,894 are active, and 236,992 are contacts under surveillance; While, the total number of deaths, due to Covid-19, amounts to 19,181.
Given the situation, the Government of Portugal plans to decree a strategic plan for the next legislative elections on January 30, among the measures being to prioritize the organizing members of the electoral elections to apply the anticovid booster dose.
