Pope warns against the false idea of freedom shared by communism and consumerism
Upon arrival at the venue, the Holy Father blessed a baby from his wheelchair, whom he kissed. Loud applause accompanied the Pontiff's entrance into the university campus, where some 250 people, including teaching staff and students, were waiting for him.
The Magnificent Rector of the University, Fr. Géza Kuminetz, welcomed the presence of Pope Francis "as a sign of the important role of science not only in ecclesiastical life, but also in social life."
He has also pointed out that in Catholic universities they try to "capture the seeds of God" that are hidden "in creation and revelation."
Thus, "with the help of science, we not only want to understand, we also want to do the right thing, that is, build a humane and supportive civilization", he pointed out.
After listening carefully to the testimony of a teacher and a student, the Pope enjoyed a brief musical intermission.
Next, he has reflected on the cultural question, the danger of technology that exploits man, the mission of the university and the risk of ideologies that distort freedom.
