Pope Francis was discharged this Friday from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome where he underwent surgery last week for an abdominal hernia while expressing his pain at the numerous deaths recorded as a result of the shipwreck of a ship off the Greek coast.

According to local media, the Supreme Pontiff left the hospital in a wheelchair at 08:00 local time (0600 GMT) where he cheerfully affirmed "I am alive" to the journalists who were waiting there.
When asked about the recent tragedy that occurred in the Ionian Sea where around 80 migrants died, Francisco expressed "so much, so much pain."

"I feel great pain for the death of migrants, including many children, in the shipwreck that occurred in the Aegean Sea," his official Twitter account posted.
"We must do everything possible so that migrants fleeing war and poverty do not find death while they search for a future of hope," he added.

For his part, his surgeon Sergio Alfieri assured that Bergolio "is fine, better than before" because he does not present the discomfort he had from the hernia while adding that "he will be a stronger pope than before."
According to the Vatican Press Office, the next activities of the Supreme Pontiff are confirmed, including the Angelus prayer this Sunday and private audiences.
