Policías de California matan a un afroamericano con las piernas amputadas | Video
Un nuevo episodio de violencia policial ha levantado al indignación en Estados Unidos, tras conocerse que la policía de Huntington Park, California, disparó en repetidas ocasiones a un hombre afroamericano de 36 años con las piernas amputadas y que tenía un cuchillo en la mano. El hombre falleció.
La familia de la víctima, Anthony Lowe Jr., pide justicia por lo ocurrido el pasado 26 de enero y cuyas imágenes se viralizaron en las últimas horas.
En los videos compartidos en redes sociales se aprecia cómo Anthony baja de su silla de ruedas e intenta huir de los policías con los muñones de las piernas, mientras éstos le apuntan con sus pistolas.
El sujeto recibió al menos 10 disparos de los oficiales, de acuerdo con versiones periodísticas. Los policías alegaron defensa propia, ya que dijeron que tenían miedo de que el hombre les lanzara el cuchillo y señalaron que primero intentaron neutralizarlo con sus armas eléctricas.
En un comunicado, la policía señaló que los hechos ocurrieron en torno a las 16:00 horas del pasado 26 de enero, cuando recibieron una llamada de un hombre que aseguró haber sido apuñalado por un sujeto en silla de ruedas.
El hecho ocurre en el contexto de la indignación por la muerte del joven afroamericano Tyre Nichols tras ser golpeado por la policía. Al menos siete policías han sido apartados de sus funciones por los hechos.
Nichols, de 29 años, murió el 10 de enero luego de estar tres días hospitalizado en estado crítico luego de los golpes que le propinaron los oficiales durante una detención. Las imágenes de las cámaras corporales de los oficiales han puesto sobre la mesa del debate la brutalidad policiaca y el racismo en Estados Unidos.
