(Spanish CNN) — France is, without a doubt, one of the great favorites for the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Not only are they the reigning champions, but a good part of the squad that won the 2018 title in Russia is still active, and several of their players enter the competition having reached a high level.

The undisputed stars are Karim Benzema, current Ballon d’Or winner and who had already been named Player of the Year by UEFA, and Kylian Mbappé, PSG’s goalscorer and one of the architects of the title four years ago. However, Benzema will finally not play in the World Cup in Qatar due to an injury suffered during training, thus joining the loss of Christopher Nkunku, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté.

Didier Deschamps will continue to be the coach and he already has the formula to become champion. It is difficult for a team with players like Mbappé, Raphael Varane, Lucas Hernández, Aurélien Tchouaméni or Antoine Griezmann among others to be, if not a favourite, at least a protagonist in the next World Cup.

Will France repeat in Qatar 2022 with the help of Benzema? France is the top of Group D in the World Cup, completed by Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. It is one of the groups that, in theory, is easier for a team that is favourite, although it has already lost to Denmark in the League of Nations this year.

France accumulates two World Cups (in 97/98 and 2018), was twice European Champion (in 83/84 and 99/00), once won the League of Nations prize of the UEFA (20/21), twice was champion of the Cup of the Confederations (on 00/01 and on 02/03) and once won the UEFA Champions Cup (in 1986).

Only two teams have won consecutive World Cups: Italy in the 1930s and Brazil in 1958 and 1962 (by Pelé and Garrincha). Will France succeed 60 years later? Is not easy.

Possible alignment of France in the World Cup in Qatar 2022

Considering the casualties of France and the scheme that Deschamps used in games prior to the world championship, this could be the typical formation of the Frenchmen:

Goalkeeper: Lloris

Defenses: Pavard, Varane, Upamecano or Saliba, Theo Hernández

Midfielders: Tchouaméni, Rabiot, Fofana

Attackers: Mbappe, Griezmann, Giroud
