Philippine police arrest drag artist for dressing up as Jesus Christ and performing the Lord's Prayer in a show
A Filipino drag queen was arrested this Wednesday after he dressed up as Jesus Christ and prayed an Our Father during one of his performances, which generated a controversy in the Asian country, with a Catholic majority and where the majority of the population rejects sexual diversity. Amadeus Fernando Pagente, whose stage name is Pura Luka Vega, was accused of blasphemy and declared "persona non grata" by several local governments after a video of his July performance was shared.

Pagente was accused of "immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions and indecent spectacles", according to a copy of the arrest warrant shared by police in Manila, the capital. The 33-year-old person declared from prison that he did "nothing wrong" and that his arrest illustrated "the degree of homophobia" in the country.
The man was accused of committing "offensive acts" that included dancing, singing and twerking to the rhythm of a religious song, according to one of two criminal complaints filed by Christian groups. Before being arrested, Pagente defended his performance as "art" and argued that cross-dressing "was not a crime."
