The Petro work team explained for its part that the future president, who will govern during the 2022-2026 period, “attended the ancestral symbolic possession. It was an arhuaca ceremony” by the Mamos, who are the wise men and spiritual guides of the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada.

On Thursday morning, Petro went to the Apostolic Nunciature, located in the north of Bogotá, the country’s capital, to hold a private meeting with religious authorities.

Church willing to mediate peace talks

According to statements offered by the appointed Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, the clerics said they were willing to be mediators in the peace negotiations with the irregular armed groups.
