The members of the Supraprovincial Collegiate Criminal Court in the Peruvian province of Áncash unanimously imposed a life sentence on the priest Maurilio Villafana, finding him guilty of the crime of rape of a child under nine years of age.

The defendant, a priest of the Catholic Church of Ancash, must also pay a fine of 6,000 soles (1,611 dollars).
The next step will be to issue an arrest warrant against the defendant, who already has a restrictive appearance order and must serve the maximum sentence in the Huaraz Penitentiary Center.
